En una reuni\u00f3n comunitaria celebrada el lunes, algunos residentes de Pilsen acogieron con satisfacci\u00f3n la apertura de un nuevo refugio temporal para solicitantes de asilo en el barrio, pero otros se preguntaron por qu\u00e9 la ciudad no ayudaba primero a los propietarios de viviendas de la zona a reducir sus impuestos sobre la propiedad<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Se espera que el almac\u00e9n del 2241 S. Halsted empiece a recibir inmigrantes tan pronto como el martes, seg\u00fan Beatriz Ponce de Le\u00f3n, teniente de alcalde de Derechos de los Inmigrantes, Migrantes y Refugiados.<\/p>\n

Unos 400 inmigrantes, entre ellos familias con ni\u00f1os, ser\u00e1n alojados en el primer albergue municipal del barrio durante la primera fase, seg\u00fan una hoja informativa repartida a los asistentes a la reuni\u00f3n. En una segunda fase podr\u00edan alojarse hasta 1.000 migrantes, seg\u00fan las autoridades municipales.<\/p>\n

\u00abLo que estamos haciendo aqu\u00ed es salvar vidas\u00bb, afirm\u00f3 el concejal de la localidad. Byron Sigcho-L\u00f3pez (25) habl\u00f3 a los cientos de personas reunidas en el auditorio de la Academia Comunitaria Benito Ju\u00e1rez sobre el nuevo albergue, se\u00f1alando que muchos migrantes se ven obligados a permanecer en condiciones de hacinamiento en las estaciones de polic\u00eda de toda la ciudad.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Pero el mensaje de Sigcho-L\u00f3pez a sus electores fue interrumpido por algunos residentes que cuestionaron en voz alta por qu\u00e9 los impuestos sobre la propiedad en la zona eran tan altos. Un an\u00e1lisis de las facturas de impuestos del a\u00f1o<\/a> pasado revel\u00f3 que los barrios hispanos -como Pilsen- se vieron muy afectados por las subidas del impuesto sobre bienes inmuebles.<\/p>\n

Mientras la gente segu\u00eda grit\u00e1ndose unos a otros, Sigcho-L\u00f3pez implor\u00f3 a los residentes que fueran civilizados y se escucharan unos a otros.<\/p>\n

\u00abLes pido que nos escuchemos, porque estamos aqu\u00ed en Benito Ju\u00e1rez, donde est\u00e1 nuestra juventud, y tenemos que presentarles mejores ejemplos\u00bb, dijo Sigcho-L\u00f3pez.<\/p>\n

Tambi\u00e9n asistieron a la reuni\u00f3n funcionarios del Departamento de Servicios Familiares y de Apoyo, de las Escuelas P\u00fablicas de Chicago y del Departamento de Polic\u00eda de Chicago.<\/p>\n

Muchos residentes del barrio -que cuenta con una considerable poblaci\u00f3n inmigrante- simpatizan con la dif\u00edcil situaci\u00f3n de los reci\u00e9n llegados, pero se preguntan por qu\u00e9 los inmigrantes que llevan aqu\u00ed a\u00f1os no reciben el mismo nivel de ayuda.<\/p>\n

Esmeralda Zaragoza dijo que sol\u00eda tener una tienda en Cermak y Damen que se vio obligada a cerrar debido a la pandemia de COVID-19. La mujer, de 48 a\u00f1os, dijo que hab\u00eda pedido ayuda al ayuntamiento y al Estado en repetidas ocasiones, pero que la hab\u00edan abandonado a su suerte.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

\u00abNo es lo mismo ser refugiado que inmigrante\u00bb, dijo Zaragoza. \u00abNo tenemos lo mismo, pero queremos lo mismo que ellos\u00bb.<\/p>\n

Otro residente pregunt\u00f3 si pod\u00eda obtener 6.000 d\u00f3lares de los fondos reservados para solicitantes de asilo para pagar la factura del impuesto de bienes inmuebles.<\/p>\n

Pero otros pidieron a los asistentes que recordaran sus ra\u00edces inmigrantes y dieran la bienvenida a sus nuevos vecinos.<\/p>\n

\u00abTenemos que construir una comunidad organizada, humanista e informada\u00bb, afirm\u00f3 Rosal\u00eda Su\u00e1rez. \u00abY si no nos escuchamos no vamos a construir nada. S\u00f3lo el pueblo puede salvar a la gente, pero s\u00f3lo si est\u00e1 organizado\u00bb.<\/p>\n

\u00abCreo que estamos olvidando de d\u00f3nde venimos\u00bb, dijo otra mujer. \u00abCreo que todos deber\u00edamos mostrar nuestro lado humano\u00bb.<\/p>\n

Chicago ha luchado por encontrar alojamiento para los m\u00e1s de 17.000 migrantes que han llegado a Chicago desde agosto de 2022. El alcalde Brandon Johnson planea crear grandes ciudades de tiendas de campa\u00f1a, o \u00abcampamentos base invernales\u00bb, para alojar a los reci\u00e9n llegados.<\/span><\/p>\n

Y s\u00f3lo se espera que aumente el n\u00famero de llegadas. En la reuni\u00f3n, Ponce de Le\u00f3n advirti\u00f3 que se espera que Chicago reciba 25 autobuses diarios procedentes de Texas a partir de esta semana, lo que podr\u00eda suponer la llegada de 1.250 inmigrantes al d\u00eda.<\/p>\n
